Shannon Yocum named to the Pac-10 All-Academic first team
May 29, 2009
Senior golfer Shannon Yocum was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic first team in post-season honors released by the Conference. Teammate Pia Halbig made the second team with Allison Goodman and Roseanne Niven garnering honorable mentions.
Yocum, who graduated with honors in Economics from the University, posted a 3.52 cumulative GPA. This is the third time she has earned a spot on the Pac-10 All-Academic team after getting second team honors each of the last two seasons. Yocum, who finished the 2008-09 season with a 74.3 stroke average, is the first Cal player to earn first team Pac-10 All-Academic team honors since the 2001-02 season when Anne Walker was named to the first team.
Sophomore Pia Halbig, an NGCA All-American honorable mention and first team All-Pac-10 honoree, earned second team All-Academic recognition.
In all, four of the Bears normal five-player lineup earned post-season academic honors from the Conference.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. Six players are then voted to the first team, six more to the second team, and others receiving votes are awarded honorable mentions.
