Zack Giesen To Attend World Team Trials

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford junior Zack Giesen has earned a spot in the 2009 World Team Trials and will compete this Sunday, May 31 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Giesen qualified for the trials with a second place finish at University Nationals in Akron, Ohio this past April. He posted a 5-1 record on the weekend and just missed his first national title with a close loss to Cornell's Mack Lewnes. During his road to the final, Giesen topped 2009 NCAA All-American Quentin Wright of Penn State.
In Iowa this weekend, Giesen will compete in a 15-man bracket at 84 kgs with some of the nation's best wrestlers. The list of qualifiers for the 2009 event is below:

Stanford assistant coach Matt Gentry will also be competing this weekend, as the 2008 Olympian is scheduled to wrestle in the Sassari International Open in Sardinia, Italy on Saturday. This summer, Gentry is also slated to compete in Macedonia on June 6 and wrestle for a chance to represent Canada in the 2009 World Championships in July.
