Last season, both the men's and women's teams were hit hard by injury in the post-season with the women finishing in a tie for 29th and the men ending the season 34th at Nationals. Both squads will look to improve dramatically from last year's team finishes.
Nicole Leach and Rhonda Watkins will vie for their second individual crowns as Leach won the 400m hurdles and Watkins won the long jump at the 2007 meet. This will be their final collegiate competition as a Bruin. Boldizsar Kocsor will also be competing in his final collegiate meet as he goes for his third All-American honor in the hammer. Krystin Lacy is also running in her last meet as a Bruin in the open 400m and on the 4x400m relay.
The Bruins have a very young squad on both sides with six freshmen and eight sophomores between the two teams.
Competition begins Wednesday with the preliminary rounds of the men's hammer (Kocsor), men's high jump (Hobson), women's long jump (Watkins/Watson), men's shot put (Taylor), men's long jump (Rosario), men's pole vault (Quinn.Woepse), 4x100m relay (men), men's 800m (Primm), women's 800m (Curry), women's 400m hurdles (Leach) and women's 400m (Lacy).
