Morgan, Turner and Bonty Advance At NCAA Championships

After waiting through a delay due to bad weather, California had three athletes advance in the first day of the NCAA Championships on Wednesday in Fayetteville, Ark. The three Golden Bears to move on in their respective events were senior Katie Morgan (pole vault), senior Brook Turner (400) and senior Kandi Bonty (400).
Morgan, the defending NCAA champion from a year ago, tied for 13th in the prelims with a mark of 13-1.50 (4.00m). Sophomore Allison Stokke had her season come to an end after she placed 19th (12-9.50, 3.90m) and did not qualify for the final.
Turner and Bonty both advanced to the semifinals in the 400. Turner came in 12th with a time of 53.48, while Bonty crossed the finish line in 53.99 and took 14th.
Sophomore Cherrelle Garrett ran three times on Wednesday. In the first round of the 100, she qualified for the semifinals, but was not able to advance to the final when she finished in 15th with a time of 11.77 in the semifinals.
Bonty and Garrett also ran in the 4x100 that came in 13th with a time of 44.66, but did not advance to the final.
The NCAA Championships continue tomorrow.
