Adalberto Santos Selected In 35th Round Of MLB Draft By San Diego

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State junior utility player Adalberto Santos has been selected by the San Diego Padres in the 35th round (1,044th overall) of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Thursday.
Santos is Oregon State's sixth selection in the 2009 draft, and second of the third day. He joins Ryan Ortiz (sixth round), Jorge Reyes (17th round), Kraig Sitton (17th round), Joey Wong (24th round) and Greg Peavey (32nd round) as Oregon State selections in the 2009 draft. San Diego also selected Reyes.
Santos came to Oregon State prior to this season from New Mexico Junior College and immediately made an impact in the Oregon State lineup, batting .320 with six doubles, two triples, four home runs and 43 runs batted in. He had the team's longest hit streak at 14 games in the month of March.
The junior also had a big Fort Worth Regional, batting .357 with a triple as OSU went 2-2.
Santos is a native of New York City and has been drafted previously, in 2007, by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 17th round.
