Sam Gaviglio Also Earns NCBWA Freshman All-America Honor

CORVALLIS, Ore. - For the third time, Oregon State right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio has been named to a Freshman All-America team. This time, he was named to the Freshman All-America First-Team as selected by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Gaviglio has also been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team and the Ping! Baseball Freshman All-America First Team.
The Ashland, Ore., native set an Oregon State freshman record by going 10-1, collecting a 2.73 earned run average in his first season with the Beavers. He won his last seven starts, including a victory in the Fort Worth Regional opener against Texas A&M.
Gaviglio worked 62 2/3 innings in 2009, striking out 55 while walking just nine. Opponents batted .200 against him.
He is one of three Pac-10 pitchers on the first team. The pitchers joining Gaviglio from the Pac-10 are UCLA's Trevor Bauer and Arizona State's Mitchell Lambson.
Gaviglio will join the Corvallis Knights for the summer and is expected to make his first start Saturday at Bellingham.
