Stanford Lands Two Rowers On CRCA Pocock Lightweight All-America Team
June 11, 2009
STANFORD, Calif. - For the second year in a row, Stanford's lightweight crew landed a pair of rowers to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) 2009 Pocock Lightweight All-America Team as sophomores Katherine Heflin and Gretchen Stumhofer were named to the squad.
The honor is the first All-America nod of both Heflin's and Stumhofer's careers, and follows the Lightweight Eight's third-place national finish at last weekend's IRA Championships at Lake Natoma.
In addition to the bronze medal earned at the IRA Championships, the lightweights, under head coach Al Acosta, rowed to victories over Harvard and MIT in mid-April, then defeated California's third openweight eight at The Big Row at the beginning of May.
In the postseason, the Cardinal opened things up by capturing its third consecutive Pacific Coast Rowing Championship in mid-May.
