Washington To Host 2010 NCAA Men's Golf Regional

June 15, 2009

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee announced that the University of Washington will serve as host to one of six 2010 NCAA Men's Golf Regionals. The tournament will be held in May 2010, at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton.

The Gold Mountain Golf Club has hosted many top events in amateur golf, recently serving as the host for the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf West Regionals and 2006 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. It has also witnessed numerous U.S. Open qualifying events, the PGA Pacific Northwest Sectional and the Washington State Amateur. Golfweek Magazine rated Gold Mountain as the best public course in Washington from 2002-2005.

'Gold Mountain has always gone above and beyond for the Huskies, doing anything possible to help our golf program,' Husky Head Coach Matt Thurmond said. 'To be able to host this event at such an amazing facility like Gold Mountain gets me and my team pretty fired up.'

Washington has played host to numerous events through the years, hosting the West Regionals in 2008 and 2003 at Washington National. UW hosted the 2009 Pac-10 Men's Championships at Seattle Golf Club.

Washington, coming off one of its most successful seasons in team history, will return all five golfers that helped the Huskies reach the quarterfinals of match play during the 2009 NCAA Championships. Buoyed by first-team All-American Nick Taylor and 2009 Pac-10 Champion Darren Wallace, the Huskies earned a No. 1 overall seed at the NCAA Central Regionals.
