Meet Rory Ross
June 17, 2009
When Rory Ross isn’t playing football, he is enjoying his other passion, music. After redshirting last season, this talented student-athlete and song writer is looking forward to expanding his career in both football and music. His most recent and favorite song is a mixture of both, a song about football entitled OSU Football that he entered into the Other Side Talent show at Oregon State this year.
Tell the fans something interesting about yourself…
I am really passionate about music. I like to write music. The song about OSU football that we entered for the talent show is my favorite song that I have written. It’s called “OSU Football” or something like that.
Why Oregon State?
The scholarship offer and the chance to play in the Pac-10.
Did anything surprise you about Oregon State?
How family orientated the whole program is. Everyone is really close and that really surprised me.
Who is your favorite team to play against in the Pac-10?
Definitely USC because it is there this year. SC is just SC, they are the best.
What was it like growing up in Arizona?
It was really nice; I liked it. The weather was really nice and Glendale was a really nice city.
Who are you in a nutshell?
I am a young man trying to contribute to the team the best I can.
Do you have a favorite pro team?
The Arizona Cardinals.
Do you have any hobbies?
Writing songs, playing basketball and video games; pretty typical stuff. My favorite video game to play is “Guitar Hero.” My favorite song to play is probably “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
If you weren’t an offensive lineman, what would you be?
I would probably play D-Line just because we always go up against them and I like what they do.
What’s the best part about football?
Just hitting people.
What is your favorite food?
Not specifically a favorite food, but I do like seafood.
What is it like playing for Coach Riley?
It’s great. He is so knowledgeable about the game and he is a great guy.
What is one thing every young athlete should know who wants to become an offensive lineman?
Footwork is the most important thing. Make sure you stay low, make sure you have your feet underneath you and you try to stay on balance.
If you could change on thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would like to be a little taller. My ideal height would be about 6’6.
Do you ever plan on doing anything with your music?
I haven’t declared a major yet, but I am thinking it’s going to be music with a composition and recording option. I don’t really know what that could lead in to, but hopefully something interesting. I don’t have a name yet, I wouldn’t go with my name, but I would definitely have to have some type of alias.
What’s the best part about being a Beaver?
As far as sports, the whole family orientated thing, and then as far as being a student here, it’s great. It’s such a small place and such a good place to be.
