Stanford, Calif. - Stanford wrestling's seven-man incoming freshman class was deemed No. 15 in the nation by D1CollegeWrestling.net, as released on the college wrestling website last week.
The class includes Ryan Mango (St. Louis, MO/Whitfield School), Bret Baumbach (Council Bluffs, IA/Lewis Central), Kyle Meyer (Monett, MO/Monett), Jordan Gray (Essex Junction, VT/Essex), Sam Umlauf (Wausau, WI/Wausau West), Richard Kessler (Whitewater, WI/Elkhorn Area) and Anthony Degani (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake Central).
Three of the seven newcomers - Mango, Meyer and Baumbach - were ranked among Intermat's Top 100 Seniors. Mango was the top-ranked 119-pounder and the nation's No. 9 recruit at all weights. Meyer was ranked No. 11 nationally at 152 pounds, while Baumbach was ranked ninth nationally at 135 pounds.
The seven-man class has combined for twelve state championships, five runner-up finishes, three third-place finishes and numerous high school All-America honors and national titles.
Joining the seven incoming freshmen on the roster this fall will be transfer heavyweight Dylan Rush. A three-time Hawaii State Champion and three-time high school All-American, Rush spent the past two seasons on the UCLA football team. As a high school senior at Konawaena High School in 2006, he was deemed the nation's ninth-ranked heavyweight. He posted a 122-15 prep record with 70 pins. A native of Naalehu, Hawaii, Rush will join the Stanford program as a redshirt junior this fall.
