Johnson Advances to 800-Meter Final at USATF Outdoor Championships

California All-American Alysia Johnson advanced to the final of the 800 meters on Friday at the USATF Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Also competing in the second day of the national meet were alumni Kristin Heaston in the shot put and Tim Bogdanof in the 110-meter hurdles.

Johnson earned the final qualifying spot for Sunday's final with her time of 2:02.86. She placed eighth in the semifinal heat. The winner of the race, Geena Gall, notched a time of 2:01.99.

Heaston placed third in the shot put with her throw of 58-8.00 (17.88m). Michelle Carter won the event with her score of 59-2.00 (18.03m).

Cal alum Tim Bogdanof advanced in the 110-meter hurdles, placing 13th overall with a time of 13.49 in first-round competition. Bogdanof's collegiate-best time of 13.51 currently stands as the second-best time in school history at Cal. The semifinals will take place tomorrow at 3:40 p.m.

The USATF Outdoor Championships continue tomorrow through Sunday.
