Incoming Freshmen Finley & Kosecki Qualify For PanAm Junior Games

Incoming freshmen Mason Finley and Matt Kosecki highlighted former, current and future Bruins at the 2009 USATF Junior/Senior National Championships in Eugene, Oregon over the weekend as the throwing duo qualified for the PanAm Junior Games.
Finley, the No. 1 discus thrower and No. 4 shot putter in the nation, qualified in both events for the PanAm Games, winning the discus with a toss of 204-3 and placing second in the shot with a mark of 66-1.50. Kosecki, the No. 4 discus thrower in the country, was second at USAs with a throw of 197-10 as both men will head to Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago July 31-August 2.
Also in the shot put, redshirt freshman Nigel Davies finished ninth with a mark of 57-8.50.
Also in the junior portion of the meet, Jamal Alston wrapped up his freshman year with a fine competition in the 100m and 200m. Alston finished eighth in the 100m final, running 10.64. He clocked a wind-aided 10.48 in the preliminary round. In the 200m, Alston placed 11th overall with a time of 22.16.
Incoming freshman Randall Carroll, a football signee who will join the track team in the spring, finished sixth in the 100m final, running 10.40.
Trent Perez finished eighth in the decathlon with a score of 6575 points. He tied for 10th in the 100m (11.60/732 pts.), finished fifth in the long jump (21-2/686 pts.), was 12th in the shot put (28-9.25/412 pts.), tied for seventh in the high jump (6-00.50/661 pts.), was second in the 400m (50.20/805 pts.), placed 11th in the 110m hurdles (16.33/696 pts.), threw a big lifetime-best in the discus for the sixth-best mark of the day (107-8/520 pts.), tied for first in the pole vault (15-00.75/787 pts.), placed seventh in the javelin with a lifetime-best (147-11/516 pts.), and was second in the 1500m (4:27.72/760 pts.).
Bruin alum Brandon Johnson finished seventh in the 400m hurdles final in a time of 50.73. In the 10,000m, Meb Keflezighi finished sixth in a time of 28:35.49.
