Sam Gaviglio Named To Baseball America Freshman All-America Second Team

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State freshman right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio has been named to Baseball America's Freshman All-America Second Team, it was announced on Tuesday.
The Ashland, Ore., native set an Oregon State freshman record by going 10-1, collecting a 2.73 earned run average in his first season with the Beavers. He won his last seven starts, including a victory in the Fort Worth Regional opener against Texas A&M.
The 10 victories tied him for second in the Pac-10 and 22nd nationally.
Gaviglio worked 62 2/3 innings in 2009, striking out 55 while walking just nine. Opponents batted .200 against him. As a starter, he went 6-0 in six starts, collecting a 1.93 ERA in 37 1/3 innings. In those six starts, opponents batted .179 against him.
Gaviglio has also been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team, the NCBWA Freshman All-America Team and the Ping! Baseball Freshman All-America First Team.
He has made two appearances for Corvallis of the West Coast League this summer, posting a 0.00 earned run average and 1-0 record. He has struck out 12 while allowing one walk in 13 innings.
