UCLA's Trevor Bauer Captures Rivals.com Freshman All-America Honors

AUSTIN - UCLA right-hander Trevor Bauer has earned Freshman All-America honors from Rivals.com/Yahoo! Sports, as announced Wednesday. Bauer led the Bruins' pitching staff in 2009, going 9-3 with a 2.99 ERA and two saves in a team-leading 105.1 innings before being named the Pac-10 Conference's Freshman of the Year.
The freshman from Valencia, Calif., recorded 92 strikeouts and 27 walks for UCLA. Bauer opened the season pitching in the bullpen before earning a spot in the starting rotation. He enrolled at UCLA in January 2009 after having graduated one semester early (December 2008) from Hart High School.
A consensus Freshman All-American, Bauer has also earned the national accolade from Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Ping!Baseball. Bauer was named the National Freshman Pitcher of the Year by Collegiate Baseball.
Bauer is joined on the Rivals.com/Yahoo! Sports Freshman All-America Team by starting pitchers Sean Gilmartin (Florida State), Taylor Jungmann (Texas) and Noe Ramirez (Cal State Fullerton). Bauer and Arizona State relief pitcher Mitchell Lambson are the only Pac-10 players selected to the Rivals.com Freshman All-America Team.
Bauer went 7-0 in Pac-10 play, posting a 2.98 ERA with 54 strikeouts, 14 walks and a team-leading four complete games in conference action. As a starting pitcher, he went 7-0 with a 3.16 ERA, logging 67 strikeouts and 19 walks while recording a .217 opponent batting average. He twice earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors.
Bauer ranked third among Pac-10 pitchers in innings (105.1), tied for fourth in wins (9), seventh in ERA (2.99), eighth in strikeouts (92) and ninth in opponent batting average (.225). Additionally, Bauer tied the UCLA record for most wins by a freshman pitcher (Pete Janicki, nine wins in 1990).
Bauer was selected to the USA Baseball National Team's 22-man roster (collegiate) on Wednesday, June 24.
