July 7, 2009
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford women's basketball's Nnemkadi Ogwumike was named to the 12-person USA Basketball's U19 Championship Team, USA Basketball announced on Tuesday. For Ogwumike the selection represents a chance at a second straight gold medal with the junior national team, as she captured gold with the U18 team last summer at the FIBA U18 Championships.
Fellow Stanford teammate Sarah Boothe was forced to withdraw from the U19 team camp after having surgery for a stress fracture in her right foot in June.
In 2008-09, Ogwumike played a key role in Stanford's repeat trip to the Final Four, being named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team after averaging 10.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while leading the conference with a 62.9 shooting percentage.
Ogwumike also posted six double-doubles on the year, highlighted by a 27-point, 13-rebound performance against San Diego State in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
The 2009 FIBA U19 World Championships are set to take place from July 23-Aug. 2 in Bangkok, Thailand.
