Sun Devil Soccer Update from Jessie Richardson
July 9, 2009
Let the season begin! This past week we started summer running to prepare us for the fall and everyone minus a few people are here. We have 10 freshmen here doing summer running, which is awesome and I am so glad that we can bond with them before the season. We start running at 7 a.m., so getting up is a little difficult this first week. Hopefully as the weeks go by, it will get easier to wake up at 6:30 a.m. but I doubt it.
Three of the freshmen are staying with Jill [Shoquist], Zanz [Alexandra Elston], Karin [Volpe], and I for all of July. Although it's a little crowded, it's nice to get to know them before preseason. My roommates and I are nice to them, of course, but they are still freshmen so we have to welcome them to our house.
On Tuesday, Zanz and I came home from team camp around 10:30 p.m. and since we have to get up early they were already asleep in our living room. Well, being the nice juniors that Zanz and I are, we decided to bang on the front window to scare them. It worked! I banged on the window and all I could hear were screams and I am pretty sure that one of them jumped out of the couch. When we walked in, we all started laughing and helped Taylor get back on the couch. Welcome to ASU!
Besides summer running, I have some exciting news of my own! I have not been playing since I tore my ACL September 7. But the time has finally come for me to step back on the field! Last Thursday I officially got cleared to play full contact and I cannot tell you how excited I am! I even started tearing up a little when I called my mom and told her. They were tears of joy of course because it has been 10 months since I have played in an actual game so I can't wait for August 14. My first game back is going to be so amazing, I don't think I am going to be nervous because I am going to be so ready to play that I won't have any room in my brain to be nervous!
The 2009-10 season is our season to play our game and reach the goals that we have had for the past two years. I am ready and I know that all my teammates are too. The training and preparation can be very tiring and draining but it will all be worth it when our first game comes around. So I hope to see all of you reading this and at our games this season! Bye!
