Verner's Views III
July 9, 2009
Good day everyone. I hope all had a safe and relaxed 4th of July weekend! This week has been a little bit of a tougher week with Romanian. The class is really starting to pick up with more vocabulary, conjugations, def. Articles, and more verb tenses. We had a big quiz Monday that was the hardest one to date. Today, we had a presentation on Romanian art forms in current Romania. We talked about a man named Georghe and the panpipe he played which is heard in the music in Kill Bill. We talked about BUG mafia, hip hop artists, and dancing! I have to do my presentation next and my topic is about monasteries in Romania, the most famous of which is the Voronet monastery. We are steadily progressing towards a midterm set for next week.
In football, training has picked up a bit in the weight room with numerous PR's being hit in all aspects which means we are striving for success. The outside conditioning has stayed competitive with the offense and defense going at it to show each other their stuff. Our afternoon workouts have also been going well. Everyone is attentive to their assignments and the players really want to learn, especially the young guys. They are asking questions and trying to help us right away! Hopefully, some of them come through. Alex Mascarenas had a nice interception last week, displaying good hands! But everyone in general has been performing well.
We had fires on Wednesday night and it moved through our area. The streets were crowded making it difficult to travel. Hopefully everyone who was involved is ok.
The 'UCLA Moment' project is currently in its final stages and I'm anxious to see the final product. I think they are picking some good scenes, so stayed tuned.
Another 'shout out' goes to Christian Yount for being named a Playboy All-American. It is a tremendous honor to be the first-ever long snapper to earn such acclaim. He deserves it and helps us have the best kicking unit in the country!
As each day ticks away and we move closer to the season, it gets me fired up knowing how hard we are working. I am even more excited to see the final masterpiece on Sept. 5th!
