Cal is listed as high as No. 9 in the country in a series of 2009 rankings published by preseason publications. The Golden Bears are coming off a seventh consecutive winning season under head coach Jeff Tedford and feature a Heisman Trophy candidate in junior running back Jahvid Best.

Other games on the 2009 home schedule include Eastern Washington (September 12), Washington State (October 24), Oregon State (November 7) and Arizona (November 14).
