UCLA Women's Soccer Program to Auction off Ride With Lance Armstrong

July 14, 2009

LOS ANGELES - In an effort to raise money for the upcoming 2009 season, the UCLA women's soccer program will be auctioning off a chance to ride with seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Arstrong on Sept. 12 in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.

Armstrong, along with Jim Balsillie and Phil Liggett (the voice of the Tour de France on Versus), will lead a group of 40 cyclists on a 100km cancer charity ride followed by a team dinner hosted by Balsillie at a private country retreat with Armstrong and his fellow riders.

Each participant is one of a group of only 40 riders who will have the opportunity to interact with Armstrong for one special day. The day will start with executive transportation from your home to a wonderful location in a country setting. There, you will meet your fellow riders and have a meet-and-greet brunch hosted by Armstrong and Liggett, who will once again ride and act as Master of Ceremonies for the event.

Then, it's onto your bike and into the beautiful Waterloo countryside for an exhilarating 100km bike tour, complete with support vehicles and police escort. It's during this tour that each cyclist will have the opportunity to break away from the group and join Armstrong at the head of the peloton. The post-ride celebrations will include an incredible team dinner, allowing riders to share their day's memories, and spend even more quality time with Armstrong.

Details on how to bid for the ride can be obtained by contacting assistant coach B.J. Snow at bsnow@athletics.ucla.edu.

Armstrong is currently competing in the Tour de France, which concludes on July 26 at the famed Champs-Élysées in Paris. You can follow his progress by clicking HERE
