Three Trojans To Compete At 2009 World Rowing U23 Championships

Trojan senior Liene Bertasjus and sophomores Ivana Filipovic and Lenka Vrecnikova will represent their respective countries at the 2009 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, July 23-26.
Bertasjus, a two-time All-American, will represent Latvia in the single scull, Filipovic will represent Serbia in the single scull as well and Vrecnikova will stroke the Czech Republic four.
There are more than 800 competitors from 56 nations set to compete this year at the championships.
Bertasjus has established herself as leader for the Trojans. In addition to being a two-time All-American, she was named to the 2009 All-Pac-10 first team and was also named to the CRCA All-West Region first team. She rowed out of the No. 7 seat on the Varsity Eight boat for most of the spring season.
Filipovic joined Bertasjus on the Varsity Eight boat as a freshman in 2009. At the 2008 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, she was ninth in single scull.
Vrecnikova, a member of the Czech National Team, finished third at the 2008 National Senior Championship U-23 in single, double and quadruple scull. She rowed on Troy's Second Varsity Eight as a freshman.
