Coach Mac's Summer Update

July 17, 2009

Hello Sun Devil Tennis Fans!

Escaping the summer heat of Tempe several Sun Devil women tennis players are travelling throughout the country and world playing some competitive tennis. All-American Kelcy McKenna had the honor of being named to the USTA Collegiate Summer Team and is busy playing several pro circuit events. Wichita and Boston were her first stops and Kelcy will play three more events before returning to ASU to start her junior year. A quarter-final singles finish in Wichita and a semi-final doubles appearance in Boston have Kelcy's summer starting in fine fashion.

Laila and Nadia Abdala have been in Europe for the past 6 weeks with stops in Portugal, Belgium and Amsterdam. The sisters have competed in 4 tournaments and have a doubles title to their credit.

Sianna Simmons has played a mixture of pro tourneys and ITA Summer Circuit events where she teamed with University of Tennessee sophomore Natalie Pluskota to claim the doubles title at the FSU event.

Incoming freshman Jacqueline Cako won the $10,000 Pro Circuit Event in Wichita, KS at the end of June.

Aussies Ashlee Brown and Michelle Brycki have been playing in their home country and Micaela Hein has been competiting in southern California adult tournaments.

The Devils are looking forward to coming into the 2009-10 season improved and ready to go!
