Incoming Golden Bear freshman battery mates, pitcher Jolene Henderson and catcher Lindsey Ziegenhirt, earned a pair of national honors. They both were named to the EA Sports All-American team and both will play in the Under Armour All-American Softball Game July 21 at the Disney Sports Complex.
Henderson and Ziegenhirt, teammates at Sheldon High in Sacramento, wrapped up their high school playing careers earning some of the top honors in high school softball. Henderson, a pitcher for Sheldon, was named to the EA Sports All-American First Team. Her catcher at Sheldon, Ziegenhirt, earned second team honors.
Henderson, playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, dominated at the Nike Faster to First tournament, not allowing a single run in five games. On the year, she finished 28-2 with 352 strikeouts while walking just 30 in 192 2/3 innings with a 0.29 ERA. At the plate, she batted for a .388 average with nine doubles and knocked in 27 runs. This is her second straight EA Sports All-American first-team honor.
