Taylor Three Over At Canadian Open
July 23, 2009
OAKVILLE, Ontario - University of Washington golfer Nick Taylor was three over par through 14 holes in the first round as the first day of play at the RBC Canadian Open came to a close Thursday evening.
Rain caused a seven-and-a-half hour delay before Taylor, a Husky senior-to-be from Abbotsford, B.C., began his round, teeing off on the 10th hole. After making three bogeys in his first four holes, he played the rest of his shortened round at even par, with two birdies and two bogeys.
His 3-over places him in a tie for 108th place in the 154-man field. However, many golfers had yet to begin their first round when play was called off for the day. Taylor will complete his remaining four holes of the first round before trying to squeeze in the second round Friday.
American pro Kevin Na, who completed his round just before the play ended for the day, posted a nine-under 63 and leads the rest of the field by two strokes.
Taylor, who finished as the runner-up in the U.S. Amateur Public Links championship last week, is playing in his second Canadian Open. He also played in this year's U.S. Open.
