Ify's Insights: Summer 2009 Edition
July 29, 2009
Junior forward Ify Ibekwe provides another entry in her periodic blog, sharing with the Wildcat fans about her summer vacation, USA Basketball experience and meeting her new teammates for the upcoming season.
Welcome back to a new year! This summer has been up and down for me but I'm very excited to end summer school on a good note and then start the year off with the new Wildcats!
As many of you know, I got invited to try out for USA basketball! It was an exciting opportunity for me to get chosen among many collegiate athletes across the country! Meeting new people, new players, coaches that I've seen on TV and being at the training facility in Colorado was amazing! Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle very badly the second day of workouts! I did stay to cheer on my USA teammates and support them!
After USA basketball was over, I went back home for 3 weeks and then started summer school! Being in Tucson for two months (for both summer school sessions) was hard because I missed my family! I missed Mother's Day, Father's Day, my mother's birthday and my brother's birthday!
But, it got better when the incoming Wildcats came! It was a good experience for all of us to be together and get to know each other before school started! We play pick up, go out to eat together, shoot, and relax in the locker room together! I enjoy each of their company! From the JC transfer Amanda to the freshman Davellyn to the returning class, we all bring something different to make the U of A women's basketball team stand out and we can also contribute differently this upcoming season!
I am very excited about this season! It is going to be A LOT of hard work but it will pay off in the end! I'm pretty sure our team goal is to do well in non- conference and enter the Pac-10 with confidence! Also, we have goals including winning the Pac-10 tourney and advancing to the NCAA tournament! I'm looking forward to this upcoming season and I'm ready to compete!
