Women's Basketball 2009-10 Schedule Announced

July 30, 2009

BERKELEY -

The California Golden Bear women's basketball team has released its 2009-10 schedule. The challenging schedule will feature five opponents from the 2009 NCAA Tournament (Baylor, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Stanford, Arizona State) as well as Boston College who advanced to the Final Four of the WNIT post season tournament.

The Bears will open the season unofficially with an exhibition game at home on November 3 against Vanguard. All seats for all fans for this exhibition game will be free.

The Bears official season opener is Sunday, November 15 when they host Idaho State. On November 17, the Bears will host Saint Mary's, one of two local non-conference opponents this season. The Bears also host San Jose State on December 9.

On Sunday, Nov. 22, the Baylor Bears will come to Haas Pavilion to take on the Cal Bears. The two teams were scheduled to play one another last season at Haas before a snow storm stranded Baylor in Oregon and forced the cancellation of the game. Both Cal and Baylor advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last year.

Cal will once again host the Colliers International Classic with another 2009 Sweet 16 team, Texas A&M, among the participants. Southern Illinois and Colorado State will also participate in the tourney.

The Bears play in two other road tournaments. They will be in Columbus, Ohio just after Thanksgiving for the Ohio State Buckeye Classic where they potentially will face another 2009 NCAA tournament team in the host school. Also playing in that tournament will be IUPUI. The Bears head to San Diego in late December for the Surf 'n Slam Tournament when they could see a rematch of their 2008 NCAA first round tournament game against San Diego. Also playing in that tournament are Boston College and Nevada.

The Bears will jump right into Pac-10 play in January, starting the Conference portion of the schedule with the first half of the Battle of the Bay, playing at Stanford Sunday, January 3. The Bears close out the regular-season at home against the Cardinal on Saturday, March 6.

Season tickets renewals begin Wednesday, August 5 with new season tickets going on sale Wednesday, August 19.

Every weekend Pac-10 game for the 2009-10 season will be a Cal Kids Day with $1 youth tickets for all children 12th grade and younger. There will also be pregame rally activities for the kids at these games.
