Krais Earns Silver Medal In Heptathlon At PanAm Junior Championships

All-American Ryann Krais has added another medal to her trophy case with a silver medal performance in the heptathlon at the 2009 PanAm Junior Championships in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad over the weekend.
Krais scored 5454 points during the two-day heptathlon competition, picking up wins in four of the seven contested events. Vanessa Spinola of Brazil won the gold with a total of 5574 points.
Krais posted the fastest 100m hurdles time in the first event of the day, 13.93, picking up 988 points. She then won the high jump with a lifetime-best clearance of 5-9.25 for 928 points. In the shot put, she finished fifth with a toss of 37-4.50 (555 points). She ended the day with the second-fastest time in the 200m, 25.43, for 848 points and a first day score of 3319 points.
On day two, Krais opened up the day with a win in the long jump with a mark of 18-7.75 (753 pts.). She finished sixth in the javelin with a mark of 109-3 (539 pts.). Krais capped off her competition with nearly a four-second win in the 800m (2:18.56) for 843 points and a total of 5454 points for all seven events.
Incoming freshman Turquoise Thompson finished just outside of the podium with a fourth-place showing in the 400m hurdles (59.08).
On the men's side, sophomore-to-be Karlton Rolle finished fifth in the 200m final, running a big lifetime-best (wind-legal) of 20.78.
In the discus final, incoming frosh Matt Kosecki finished fifth with a throw of 183-6.
