Corvallis, Ore. -
Oregon State University sophomore running back Jacquizz Rodgers has been selected a candidate for the 2009 Doak Walker Award. The sophomore from Richmond, Texas is one of four players from the Pac-10 Conference on the preseason watch list.
'Quizz' rushed for 1,253 yards last season and became the first freshman to ever be named the league's Offensive Player of the Year. He earned several Freshman of the Year honors and was an Associated Press Third Team All-American. He is on several preseason All-America teams for this season.
The semifinalists will be announced Nov. 11 and the finalists on Nov. 23. The recipient will be named Dec. 10 on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show in Orlando. The award has been presented since 1990 and is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
