Two Sun Devil Golfers Competing in U.S. Women's Amateur

Aug. 4, 2009

Junior-to-be Jaclyn Sweeney and incoming freshman Jennifer Johnson are currently competing in the U.S. Women's Amateur held at the Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo. The tournament will conclude on August 9.

Sweeney has had a productive summer after being a member of the ASU NCAA Championship team. The Boston area native placed fifth at the Canadian Women's Amateur last month shooting an even 288 (72-72-76-68).

Johnson has been named to the Junior Solheim Cup, which will be played August 17-19 at the Aurora Country Club in Aurora, Ill. The last Sun Devils to play in the Junior Solheim Cup was Carlota Ciganda who played in 2005 and 2007. Azahara Munoz and Anna Nordqvist were also members of Team Europe in 2005 while Munoz competed in 2003 as well.

At last year's U.S. Women's Amateur, Munoz finished runner-up while Ciganda qualified for match-play.
