Beavers on KWIP in Spanish this Season

Aug. 5, 2009

Corvallis, Ore. -

For the seventh consecutive year Oregon State University football games will be broadcast in Spanish, and for the first time KWIP (880 AM) in Dallas, Ore., will serve as the flagship station.

KWIP is a 5,000-watt station with an estimated reach of 336,553 Hispanics in the region.  KWIP’s coverage map includes the entire Willamette Valley and the central and northern Oregon coast.

Back for his seventh year behind the microphone is Juan De Dios Andrade, who has also broadcast numerous Beaver baseball games.  Joining Andrade for his first year as an analyst is Jose Luis Lupercio.

“We’re very excited to have KWIP join our family of radio stations,” Beaver Sports Properties General Manager Steve Sullivan said.  “Oregon State was the first major college in the Pacific Northwest to air games in Spanish and I’m confident we will have a terrific relationship with KWIP.”

The Beavers were first heard in Spanish in 2003 and in 2006 the coverage expanded to every regular season game and bowl contest.

Oregon State begins preparations for the 2009 season with the first day of practice Aug. 10.  The Beavers open the season Sat., Sept. 5 at Reser Stadium against the Portland State Vikings.
