Bruce Snyder To Be Honored At Homecoming Legends Luncheon In October

Aug. 6, 2009

TEMPE, Ariz. - Former Arizona State University head football coach Bruce Snyder will be honored at the ASU Alumni Association's Homecoming Legends Luncheon on Friday, October 30. The luncheon will be held at The Buttes, A Marriott Resort, in Tempe, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Snyder, who passed away on April 13 at the age of 69, was the head coach at ASU for nine seasons (1992-2000). In 1996, he guided the Sun Devils to one of their best years in history, as the Sun Devils went 11-0 in the regular season to earn a Pacific-10 Conference title and a berth in the Rose Bowl. That season also included a 19-0 win over two-time defending national champion and top-ranked Nebraska. Snyder won 13 major coach of the year awards in 1996, including the Paul 'Bear' Bryant Award.

In his nine seasons at ASU, he posted a 58-45 (.563) record, ranking him second in school history in wins. He led the Sun Devils to four bowl games and finished .500 or better in Pac-10 Conference play seven times.

Speakers at the luncheon will include former ASU offensive tackle Juan Roque, a Consensus All-American in 1996, and wide receiver Keith Poole. Other former Sun Devils who played for Snyder will be in attendance, as will members of the Snyder family.

The luncheon will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Sun Devil football team, which finished the season 8-2 and won the Western Athletic Conference title. Additionally, the luncheon will feature legends from the Sun Devils' 1969 season, including former players Jim Kane and Jim Shaugnessy, who are coordinating the 40th reunion of this winning season.

Tim Healey, the voice of the Sun Devils, will serve as emcee.

Tickets for the luncheon are $40 for Alumni Association members and $45 for non-members. For more information on how to purchase tickets, please visit:
