Cal Tennis to Host USTA Girls' 18 National Championships

BERKELEY - Hellman Tennis Complex will play host to several matches of the 2009 USTA Girls' 18 National Championships on Tuesday, Aug. 11. The field of 192 singles players (eight seeded) brings the most talented 18 and under women's tennis players in the country to the Bay Area. Incoming Cal freshman Tayler Davis will be among the field of players slated to compete; the tournament champion receives a wild-card entry to the U.S. Open.

Hosted by the Berkeley Tennis Club and the Claremont Resort and Spa, the week-long tournament takes place from Aug. 9-16. For more information, please visit www.ustagirls.org.

The California women's tennis team completed one of the most successful seasons in school history with a second-straight NCAA runner-up finish and ranked No. 4 in the ITA College Tennis Rankings. The Golden Bears posted a 22-5 record and went 7-1 in Pac-10 play for second place and a 28th consecutive postseason appearance.
