Incoming freshman golfer Jennifer Johnson has advanced to the semi-finals of the Women's U.S. Amateur. The 2009 U.S. Women's Amateur is being held August 3-9 at the Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo. Conduced by the United States Golf Association, the U.S. Women's Amateur is a combined stroke and match play event. Johnson has not trailed a match this week.

Johnson was the 32nd seed coming out of stroke play. She bested Callie Nielson 7 and 6 in the round of 64 and followed that victory up by defeating Amelia Lewis 3 and 2. The La Quinta, Calif., native went on to play a face she will be sure to see many times in collegiate play, UCLA's Sydnee Michaels. Johnson finished off Michaels with a 3 and 2 win to advance onto the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, Johnson took a lead over Candace Schepperle, an All-American from Auburn University, on the fourth hole and never looked back. Earning a 5 and 4 win, she advanced to the semi-finals and will face Alexis Thompson tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. CT.
