Stanford Kicks Off Season With Open Practice, Booster Barbecue

Stanford, Calif. - The 2009 Stanford women's volleyball team kicks off the 2009 season on Monday, with its first team practice scheduled for 3 p.m. The team will have three weeks to prepare for its opening matches, which will take place in Notre Dame, Ind. Aug. 28-30.
All team practices are open to the public and will be held in Maples Pavilion or the new Arrillaga Practice Gym. Practices run 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. everyday between Aug. 10 and Aug. 26, with the exception of Aug. 14 (8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.) and the three team scrimmage days.
The three scrimmages, which will give fans a sneak peek at the 2009 team, will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 16, 10 a.m. on Aug. 23 and 4 p.m. on Aug. 25.
Following the last of the three scrimmages on Aug. 25, Stanford will host its annual kick-off festivities. The 4 p.m. scrimmage will be followed by a 6 p.m. chalk talk with head coach John Dunning. The booster barbecue begins immediately after the chalk talk at Jimmy V's Sports Café.
The scrimmage, chalk talk and barbecue are all open to the public. Admission to the scrimmage and chalk talk is free, while the barbecue is $20 per adult and $15 per child.
