Cougar Soccer Hosts 20th Anniversary Dinner

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's soccer program will host a dinner to celebrate its 20th Anniversary season, Friday, Sept. 25.
The event will be held at Banyan's Restaurant at the Palouse Ridge Country Club and will begin at 7 p.m. The cost is $30 per individual or $50 per couple and includes dinner, silent and live auction, guest speakers, and an opportunity to celebrate Cougar soccer with current and former coaches and student-athletes.
The evening's festivities will follow a 3 p.m. match at Lower Soccer Field between the Cougars and Weber State. For more information about the 20th Anniversary dinner, Click Here
The Cougar soccer program begin in 1989 under head coach Lisa Fraser. WSU posted a 10-6-1 mark during its inaugural season. Fraser's teams posted a winning record in each of her five seasons on the Palouse, including a school-record 14 victories in 1990.
Lisa Gozley succeeded Fraser as the Cougar mentor in 1994 and her first season she guided WSU to its first postseason appearance. The Cougars finished 12-7-1 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round. The following season, Gozley and the Cougars took part in their first Pac-10 Conference season and in 1996 posted their first winning record (4-2-1) in road matches.
In 1998, Dan Tobias took over as head coach. In his third season, WSU was 13-7-0, recorded its first winning record in Pac-10 matches (5-4-0) and was selected to the NCAA Tournament. Two years later, Tobias led the Cougars to an 11-7-2 mark, including a school-best 5-2-2 in Pac-10 matches, and another NCAA Tournament before resigning from his position.
In 2003, current Cougar Head Coach Matt Potter began his trek toward a school-record 55 wins. He has led WSU to five-straight winning seasons and a .500 or better record in the Pac-10 each of the last four years. In 2008, Potter's squad posted double-figure victories for the third time in the last four seasons and made it back to the NCAA Tournament.
Washington State opens its season at home, Friday, Aug. 21 against Idaho at 3 p.m. The home schedule this season includes matches against BYU (Sept. 10, 3 p.m.), Weber State (Sept. 25, 3 p.m.), Stanford (Oct. 23, 3 p.m.), California (Oct. 25, 11 a.m.), USC (Nov. 6, 2 p.m.) and UCLA (Nov. 8, 11 a.m.). The Cougars also have road matches within driving distance from Pullman against Gonzaga (Sept. 3, 3 p.m.), Portland (Oct. 4, 2:30 p.m.), Washington (Oct. 9, 7 p.m.), Seattle (Oct. 11, noon), Oregon State (Oct. 30, 7:30 p.m.) and Oregon (Nov. 1, 1 p.m.). For the complete schedule, Click Here
