Women's Soccer Earns Top-25 Ranking
Aug. 12, 2009
SEATTLE - The Washington women's soccer team, which went 15-6-1 last season and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, has earned their first preseason ranking since 2004, coming in at No. 24 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com rankings released today.
The Huskies are one of five Pac-10 teams in the Top-25, two of which are in the nation's top four. Stanford comes in at No. 3, followed by No. 4 UCLA. USC, the 2007 National Champion, is No. 11 while California is No. 21.
UW put together one of the top turnarounds in the NCAA last season, going from 5-13-1 in 2007 to 15-6-1 while earning their first NCAA appearance since 2004. The Huskies will return 10 starters from that squad, including All-Pac-10 and All-West Region selections Veronica Perez, a senior, and Kate Deines, a sophomore.
The Huskies began practice this week in preparation for their first game on Aug. 26 against Seattle at Husky Soccer Field. They will then host Portland, ranked No. 1 by TopDrawerSoccer.com, on Aug. 27 at Noon. For ticket information, click here.
