Stellar Misses Finals by One Spot

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- Stanford's Carmen Stellar just missed advancing to the Finals at the AT&T USA Senior Diving Championships, finishing 13th in the Semifinals of the platform competition. Fellow Cardinal Taylor Sishc finished 20th in the preliminaries of the men's platform.
Stellar (Arcadia, Calif.), the Pac-10 Champion in the event this past season and an All-American, finished with 243.50 points, 1.25 points behind 12th place finisher Cheyenne Cousineau for the final placing.
Stellar's top dive came on her second attempt, a back 2 1/2 pike that tallied 55.10 points. Her first dive of the semifinals scored 51.80 points on a back 1/2 with a two 2 1/2 twise, while her second to last dive, an inward 3 1/2 tuck, tallied 52.80 points.
Stellar finished 11th after the preliminary round with a tally of 99.65 points based on two dives. The back 1 1/2, with a 2/12 twist scored 51.80 points.
For Sishc (Loveland, Colo.), a freshman this past season, he totaled 288.20 points, posting a best of 62.10 on his first dive, an arm stand backward, followed by two somersaults and a 1/2 twist.
The final event for a Stanford Cardinal is Saturday, when Dwight Dumais competes in the finals of the 3-meter springboard.
