    2009 TEAM PREVIEW
In 2009, the Huskies will look to build momentum off a 2008 campaign which ranked one of the best seasons in school history. With 19 total returnees and 10 starters coming back, Washington will be a deep squad with a great deal of experience. Led by skillful senior forward Veronica Perez, who lead the squad in goals with 13 and was tied for first in assists with five, will look to build upon her stellar season in 2009. Sophomore Kate Deines, who made an immediate impact in 2008 scoring seven goals, the second-most all-time by a Husky freshman, will look to use her great skill and tactical knowledge to shore up the midfield. On the back line, the Huskies are led by senior defender Lindsey Kasser, who has developed into a strong leader for the team as a captain and anchored a defensive unit which allowed only 1.38 goals per game in 2008. Washington is also bringing in a strong freshman class which will give the squad more all-around depth.

    KEY MATCHUPS
    • Aug. 30 - vs. Portland, 12 p.m. PT
    • Oct. 9 - vs. Washington State 7 p.m. PT
The Huskies will matchup with perennial favorite Portland at home in the second game of the season. The game against rival-Washington State always brings a great deal of emotion, but it should also prove to be a great match with only one point separating the two in the Pac-10 Preseason Coaches Poll.

    HUSKY TO WATCH
    17 • Veronica Perez
SR • Forward • San Mateo, Calif.

After having a true break-out season in 2008, in which she netted a team-high 13 goals and added five assists, Perez will look to provide even more offense power for the Huskies in 2009. Her 13 goals rank her tied for third on the Washington single-season charts and the six game-winners she netted leave her ranked third for most in a season in the Washington record books. She was named second team All-Pac-10, and NSCAA and Soccer Buzz second team All-West Region last season. Perez has international competition experience as well, as she spent the summer playing for both the Mexican National Team and the U-23 United States National Team. The crafty Perez has an excellent shot with both feet and also gives the team depth in their ability to create goals.
