2009 Volleyball Season Outlook: Defensive Specialists/Libero

The 2009 Oregon State volleyball season is just days away. The start of the 2009 campaign begins Saturday in legendary Gill Coliseum as the team hosts its annual Orange and Black Scrimmage at 12:00 p.m.

Belshe, and her wickedly effective serve, will continue to see opportunities at defensive specialist. Devich, primarily a defensive specialist in 2008, won the libero spot in the spring after the graduation of Ashley Evans. O’Neil and Freeman will enter the fray for the opposite-colored jersey.
“Betsy was the defensive specialist last year but worked her way to being the libero in the spring,” Liskevych said. “But it’s really an open battle with Brittney in the middle of it. Those four are going to compete, and we’ll see what happens. You’ll never find anyone who works harder or hustles more than Dianni. And then the great thing about Alyssa is she could also be used as an outside hitter in some of our drills, but it’s really going to depend on that position who comes out to be a very steady passer and serve receiver because that’s going to be something we really look at.”
