Three Pac-10 Men's Basketball Players Named to Wooden Award Preseason List

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA guard Nic Wise, CALIFORNIA guard Jerome Randle and WASHINGTON guard Isaiah Thomas have been named to the 2009-10 John R. Wooden Award Preseason List announced today by Richard 'Duke' Llewellyn, Wooden Award Chairman and founder.
Wise, a 5-foot-10, 177-pound senior guard from Houston, Texas, averaged 15.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game in 35 appearances last year. He ranked among the Pac-10 leaders in scoring, assists, steals (1.5 spg), free throw percentage, three-point field goals made (1.9 per game), three-point percentage, assist:turnover ratio (1.6:1) and minutes played (36.4). Wise was a second team All-Pac-10 selection.
Randle, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound senior guard from Chicago, Ill., led the Golden Bears in scoring 20 times in 33 games, including a career-high 31 points at Arizona. A first team All-Pac-10 selection, he finished third in the Conference in scoring and tied for first in assists. His 82 three-pointers were a single-season school record.
Thomas, a 5-foot-8, 185-pound sophomore guard from Tacoma, Wash., was the Huskies leading scorer (15.5 ppg, seventh best among all Pac-10 players) and dished out a team-high 91 assists in 2008-09. The 2009 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, raised his scoring to 16.0 ppg during Pac-10 play and helped Washington win its first outright Conference Championship since 1953.
The 34th annual Wooden Award ceremony, which will include the announcement of the Men's and Women's Wooden Award winner, and the presentation of the Wooden Award All-American Teams and the Legends of Coaching Award, will take place the weekend of April 9-11, 2010.
