TUCSON – Arizona volleyball held its annual Red-Blue scrimmage at McKale Center this afternoon. The Arizona “Red” team, which was made up of mostly starters, topped the Blue squad, three games to two.

The Red team, led by outside hitters Tiffany Owens and Whitney Dosty, got off to a fast start, taking game one by the score of 25-11.  In game two, it was more of the same as setter Paige Weber, Owens and Dosty kept the Red team at an arms length most of the way.

The Blue team turned the tables on Red though in games three and four with two of the team’s managers playing for Blue. In both games, the Blue squad was victorious 25-23.  Redshirt Freshman Tori Moore had several nice sets for managers Sean Carter and Brenden Kerr in the wins.

Blue’s wins during games three and four set up a deciding fifth game.  The Arizona starters proved their mettle in the deciding set and topped the Blue team 15-10.

“I thought it was a good first start, said head coach Dave Rubio.  “We certainly have a ways to go, but I liked the effort.”

The team will travel next weekend to Louisville, Ky. for a season opening tournament with Louisville, Pittsburgh and Belmont.
