Wildcat soccer falls short in home opener.

The Arizona women's soccer team (0-1) lost their home and season opener to UC Irvine (1-1), 2-1 on Sunday evening at Murphey/Mulcahy Stadium.
The first and only Wildcat goal was scored by sophomore Renae Cullear in the 42nd minute, assisted by freshman Itzel Rodriguez.
Mar Rodriguez scored the game winning goal for UCI in the 69th minute, following her own shot that rebounded in front of the goal.
'This was not the result we were looking for,' Said head coach Dan Tobias, 'We had a few decent moments, and I saw us coming back, but we just couldn't make it happen. We gave up the ball too often, and there were too many unforced errors. It's a disappointing loss, but come Tuesday, we'll move on and look forward to next week's matches.'
The Wildcats had an excellent opportunity to equalize in the 79th minute. After a combination of passes, Cullear found herself with an open shot, which was saved by UCI's goalie, de Seriere.
Next weekend, the Wildcats travel to Flagstaff to take on Northern Arizona on Friday, August 28 at 7 pm. On Sunday, the Wildcats return home to take on San Diego at 7 pm.
