Stanford's Press Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Stanford senior forward Christen Press has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Aug. 18-Aug. 24, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Press, who hails from Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. scored two goals over the weekend in Stanford's 6-2 win over Hawaii in Honolulu. Press also had an assist in the match when she sent a ball through the defense to set up senior forward Kelley O'Hara for a breakaway to begin the scoring for the Cardinal in the fifth minute. In the second half, Press scored her two goals in a five minute span, which put the game way in the second half after Hawaii had narrowed the score to 3-1. She led all scorers in the match with five points.
Press was Stanford's leading scorer last year, and with her two goals on the weekend she moved up to No. 9 on the school's all-time goal-scoring list with 26. Her assist moved her up into a tie for the eighth position on Stanford's career list, with 18.
The win put Stanford at 1-0-0 on the season and this weekend Press and the Cardinal willlook to continue with their winning ways as they travel to Cal Poly on Fri., Aug. 28 for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Cardinal will then return on Sun., Aug. 30 for their first home match of the season against San Diego State at 1 p.m. PT.
