Driscoll Makes Cut; Wins First Match at U.S. Amateur

UCLA junior Connor Driscoll won his first match Wednesday at the 109th U.S. Amateur at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Ok.

Driscoll defeated Jonathan Randolph of Brandon, Mass., 3&1 in the first round. The UCLA letterman never trailed and built a 3-up lead at the turn. He lost the 10th when Randolph birdied, but got it back with par at the 12th. Driscoll was 2-up after 16 and won the match with a par at the 17th.

On Tuesday, Driscoll made the 36-hole cut with a six-over par two-round total of 146 after rounds of 75 (+5) at Cedar Ridge CC on Monday and a round of 71 (+1) at Southern Hills on Aug. 25. His 36-hole score tied for 32nd place.

Sophomore Gregor Main missed the 36-hole cut with rounds of 78-74--152 (+12), playing at Southern Hills on Monday and Cedar Ridge on Tuesday.
