ASU Women's Soccer vs. Kansas
Aug. 30, 2009
The Arizona State women's soccer team concludes its weekend stay in Knoxville, Tenn., today when it faces the Kansas Jayhawks in the Lady Vol Classic. Because both ASU (defeated Tennessee 3-2 in double OT) and Kansas (defeated Pepperdine 2-1) won their games on Friday, today's game becomes something of a `championship game.'
With a win today the Sun Devils would be 3-0 for the first time since 2006 and would equal their longest winning streak since 2007 when they won three straight games during head coachKevin Boyd's first season at ASU.
Notes from Friday's win over Tennessee...
ASU's win over Tennessee ended a seven-game overtime winless streak for ASU that went back to the 2007 season. Last season ASU was 0-2-4 in overtime games. The streak began when ASU and Stanford tied 0-0 in 2007 in Tempe.
Tied her single-game career high in goals (2). Volpe also scored two goals in last year's season opening win at NAU and vs. Creighton in 2007.
Moved into a tie for fourth place on ASU's career list for game-winning goals (7), is now in eighth place for career goals scored (16) and 10th place in points (36).
Has accounted for points in each of her first two career games after scoring her first career goal in last week's season opener against UC Irvine and then registering a pair of assists in Friday's win against Tennessee.
