Three Second Half Goals Propel Women's Soccer to Win

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Oregon State women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half, two by sophomore Chelsea Buckland, as the Beavers rallied to a 3-1 win over Cal State Northridge in action on Sunday afternoon. The win was the second straight for the Beavers as Oregon State improved to 2-1-0 on the year while Cal State Northridge fell to 2-2-0 on the year.
CS Northridge got on the board first as a goal by Desiree Cardenas in the 37th minute gave the Matadors a one-goal lead heading to a break.
Oregon State responded in the second half as the Beavers would score three times in an eight-minute span to secure the victory.
Buckland followed with a pair of goals to give Oregon State a two-goal advantage and put the game away. In the 81st minute, the sophomore forward corralled a turnover and put a shot past the diving keeper into the lower-right hand corner for the eventual game-winner.
Buckland would provide some insurance for Oregon State with a goal just five minutes later as she took a pass from Wetzel on a free kick and found the back of the net in the 86th minute.
The Beavers would cruise from there as Colleen Boyd picked up the win for Oregon State, recording six saves. Leah Elliot made five saves in net and took the loss for CS Northridge.
For the contest, Oregon State out-shot CS Northridge, 23-14, and had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Buckland led the way with five shots for the Beavers.
Oregon State will return to action on Friday, Sept. 4, when the Beavers host Nevada at 8:00 p.m.
