UCLA's Rob Rasmussen Ranked No. 16 Cape Cod League Prospect
Sept. 1, 2009
DURHAM, N.C. - UCLA junior left-hander Rob Rasmussen has been tabbed the No. 16 prospect in the 2009 Cape Cod League by Baseball America, as rated in the national publication's top-30 prospect list. Rasmussen went 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 35.0 innings for the Orleans Firebirds over the summer.
Rasmussen, who started on the mound for the East Division in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game, finished his summer campaign with 42 strikeouts and 11 walks, limiting the opposition to a .197 batting average. In six starts, the southpaw averaged 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
In addition, Rasmussen has been ranked the No. 8 prospect from the 2009 Cape Cod League by ESPN.com's Keith Law.
Rasmussen is just one of two Pac-10 players listed among Baseball America's top-30 prospects, and is the only Pac-10 player on the list who will return to school for the 2010 baseball season.
Rasmussen and five other pitchers tied for the league lead with four wins. The UCLA southpaw was the only Cape Cod League pitcher to register four wins without absorbing any losses. He finished eighth in the league in ERA (1.80, minimum 35 innings) and 11th in strikeouts (42).
Rasmussen helped lead Orleans to a 25-17 record, the league's lowest team ERA (2.69) and fewest walks allowed. Orleans finished the summer tied for the second most wins after having advanced to postseason play.
