Sept. 2, 2009
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Fresh off a pair of road victories last weekend, the Oregon State women's soccer team returns to action this week as the Beavers host Nevada on Friday, Sept. 4, at 8:00 p.m. The game is part of a soccer triple-header on Friday as the men's team hosts the OSU Nike Challenge, with a pair of games slated for 3:00 and 5:30 p.m. Admission to the matches is free.
'We're excited about the opportunity to come back to Corvallis and play in front of the home crowd,' head coach Linus Rhode said. 'We did some good things in our two wins last week and I think the team is anxious to build on some of the things we have accomplished.'
Sophomore Chelsea Buckland leads the Oregon State scoring attack with a pair of goals so far this year as the forward found the back of the net twice in the win over Cal State Northridge. Junior Courtney Wetzel also has four points heading into the week as the defender leads the team with two assists.
Colleen Boyd should see most of the action in goal as the sophomore enters the contest with a 1.00 goals against average and a .812 save percentage.
Nevada is looking for its first win of the season as the squad enters the contest with a 0-3 record after losses to UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine last week. Emma Rice leads the team with one goal on the year while Marie Cove has seen most of the time in goal, posting a 2.53 goals against average.
The meeting marks the first in the series between Nevada and Oregon State.
