Three Women's Tennis Players Selected for ITA All-American Championships
Sept. 4, 2009
Three members of the Arizona State women's tennis team have been selected for the 2009 Riviera/ITA All-American Championship. Nadia Abdala, Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna have been selected to participate at the tournament which will be held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., for the 25th consecutive year.
Kelcy McKenna has been named to the main draw in both singles. McKenna won the 2008 ITA All-American and earned All-American accolades following a stellar sophomore campaign. She will enter her junior season ranked seventh nationally in singles.
McKenna will team up with doubles partner Micaela Hein. The dynamic duo battled their way to All-American status at last year's NCAA Championships. The 12th ranked doubles team is No. 1 on the alternate list for the main draw at the ITA Championships and is listed in the qualifying draw. Hein will also compete in singles at the Championship. In singles, Hein will begin the season ranked 68th.
Abdala has also qualified for the singles draw. The senior will enter the season ranked 35th after a strong junior season in which she finished just shy of All-American status.
The Sun Devils will begin their season at the Cal Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif., on October 2.
