Arizona Earns Top-25 Ranking

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a weekend where it improved its record to 6-0 and won the Wildcat Classic presented by Marriott Tucson University Park, the Arizona volleyball team earned a ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s top-25 weekly poll.
UA, which came in at No. 25 in the rankings, swept both Nevada and Houston on Friday before topping Eastern Washington, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon. Setter Paige Weber was named MVP of the Wildcat Classic and Jacy Norton and Whitney Dosty also garnered ‘All-Tournament’ selections.
The Pac-10 Conference now has an impressive seven teams ranked in the AVCA’s Sept. 7 edition of its top-25 poll. Washington comes in at No. 3 followed by UCLA (No. 8), Stanford (No. 10), Oregon (No. 12), Cal (No. 13), USC (No. 15) and the Wildcats at No. 25.
This week Arizona will travel to Santa Clara, Calif. to compete in the SCU Invitational. Up first the Cats will face host Santa Clara (4-2) which is coming off winning the Sac State Invitational. Then Friday Arizona will play Utah (5-2). The Utes were picked to repeat as Mountain West Conference champs in 2009.
