Cal No. 10 In AP And USA Today Polls
Sept. 8, 2009
BERKELEY - California moved up two spots to No. 10 in the first regular season polls released by both the Associated Press and USA Today on Tuesday. Cal jumped past Oklahoma and Virginia Tech in both polls after the Golden Bears opened their 2009 season with a dominating 52-13 victory over Maryland at Memorial Stadium last Saturday in a contest televised nationally by ESPN2.
The ranking is the team's highest since the club was also No. 10 in the AP poll heading into a game vs. UCLA on Oct. 20, 2007. The last time the Bears have been ranked No. 10 in the first regular season poll came when they held down the No. 10 spot in both polls prior to a game vs. Colorado State on Sept. 8, 2007.
The Golden Bears continue their 2009 campaign by hosting Eastern Washington in a contest to be televised live by Comcast SportsNet California at Memorial Stadium this Saturday, September 12 (2:30 p.m.). The best way to show your support is to attend the game in your 2009 Cal Football Official Game Day Tee.
